Frequently
Asked Questions
Where
are NovaTac flashlights made?
The
NovaTac Original EDC Series Flashlights are proudly made in
the USA. The NovaTac Commercial EDC Series is manufactured
overseas in a TAA approved country.
What
does EDC mean?
The name EDC originates from the term Every Day Carry
(EDC). These flashlights are small enough to carry on your
person every day and night.
.How
many models are available?
The NovaTac Original EDC series of flashlights is
divided into four models. They are the Every Day Carry (120E),
the Tactical (120T), Military (120M) and the Programmable
(120P). The Commercial EDC Series are divided into four new
models, the Storm, Wichita, Classic and Special Ops. Each
model is available with 120 lumen maximum output.
What
are the differences between the Original EDC Series and the
Commercial EDC Series flashlights?
Although both the Original EDC Series and the Commercial
EDC Series share similar designs and materials, there are
a few subtle differences.
The original EDC Series flashlights consists of four models
run by a single CR123 power source, are type III HA with the
exception of the 120M, which is type II HA to meet color requirements.
All models in the Original EDC Series include a user installed
pocket clip with lanyard attachment point.
The Commercial EDC Series consists of two models that run
on a single CR123 power source ( Storm, Wichita), one model
that utilizes two CR123 power sources (Special Ops), and a
model that is run off two AA power sources (Classic). All
Commercial EDC Series flashlights feature type II HA with
a factory installed pocket clip underneath the bezel for a
"Bezel-up carry" with lanyard attachment.
What
are the differences between the Original EDC Series models?
The 120E model is pre-programmed from the factory
with four preset settings of 42 lumens, 10 lumens, emergency
strobe ( light strobes 120 lumens at one second intervals),
120 lumens, and an extended button. The 120E model is designed
for most users who need a simple multi-output flashlight with
emergency strobe.
The 120T is designed for Military, Law Enforcement and personal
protection/defense users. It has four preset settings of 120
lumens, 10 lumens, 0.3 lumens, a disorienting strobe and an
extended button. It turns on to maximum brightness every time.
.
The Programmable version offers a flat button and the most
flexibility for users who like to personalize the settings
of their flashlight. It has 4 changeable brightness settings
and 9 options. It can be programmed to come on to your choice
of 22 brightness levels. There is no other production flashlight
that offers the wide range of output and options of the NovaTac
EDC Programmable flashlights.
The 120M is the commercial adaptation of the NovaTac SPL-120
(military only). The NovaTac SPL-120 was developed under advisement
of the US military. The 120M shares the same programming as
the 120T and also features a raised tail switch.
What
are the differences between the Commercial EDC Series models?
The NovaTac Storm is a single CR123 powered flashlight
with preset outputs of 120 lumens, 30 lumens, 0.3 lumens,
and disorientating strobe, with a flat button. The Novatac
Special Ops is a two CR123 powered flashlight. The Special
ops shares the same programming with the Storm and features
a flat button. The NovaTac Classic is a two AA version that
shares the same programming as the Storm and Special Ops and
has an extended button. The Novatac Wichita is powered by
a single CR123 power source with preset outputs of 60 lumens,
10 lumens, 0.3 lumens, and 120 lumens and also features a
flat button.
Why
does my 120T come with a large O-ring and what is the Thorpe
Technique?
The O-ring is used when the 'Thorpe Technique' is
used with a handgun. The O-ring is put in the groove nearest
the end cap. The EDC-120T is held directly in line with the
pistol, not off to its side. The tail switch is pressed against
the front of the fingers of the strong hand on the weapon
instead of the support hand palm due to the shorter distance
from the O-ring to the tail cap.

Can the 120T, 120M, Storm, Special Ops,
or Classic go directly to disorienting strobe?
Yes, a click-press will give direct momentary access
to the strobe from off. It is also momentary if accessed from
other brightness levels when the button is pushed and held.
From the other brightness levels disorienting strobe can be
latched on with a click-press. The 120E and Wichita do not
possess the disorientating strobe feature.
Is
the Programmable model able to go directly to disorienting
strobe?
Yes, you can program any one of the levels on the
Programmable model to strobe then go directly to it from off
by setting the light to force on to that level. You can momentarily
go to strobe from other brightness levels by setting it where
maximum usually is then pressing the button.
Does
the NovaTac Original EDC Series models or the Commercial EDC
Series include a pocket clip or lanyard attachment?
Yes, all NovaTac EDC models come with a pocket clip
which includes a lanyard attach point.
How
do I install the pocket clip on my Original EDC Series flashlight?
Do I have to remove the o-ring first?
Yes. When installing the supplied clip on any Original
EDC Series (120E, 120T, 120M, 120P) model of NovaTac flashlight
the O-ring under the switch must first be removed. Unscrew
and remove the switch from the battery tube. Wipe the lubricant
from the exposed threads. Carefully push the O-ring between
the thumb and forefinger to one side of the battery tube creating
a loop. Insert a blunt object under the loop and remove the
O-ring. Install the clip pointing toward the lens then re-install
the O-ring in the groove. Keeping downward pressure on the
clip, replace the switch and tighten. Tightening compresses
the clip and results in secure bezel down carry. The pocket
clip may also be installed between the battery tube and the
housing of the LED module following the same procedure. NovaTac
does not recommend mounting the pocket clip under the bezel
of the Original EDC Series flashlight as this may compromise
the seal against water and moisture. The Commercial Series
flashlights have the pocket clip preinstalled under the bezel
for a "Bezel-up carry". NovaTac does not recommend
removing the pocket clip of the Commercial Series flashlights
as this may compromise the seal against water and moisture.
Changing or tampering with the moisture seals voids the NovaTac
warranty and is not recommended.
Where can I find reviews on the new NovaTac flashlights?
Several NovaTac Reviews are available on our Press/Events
page. Also be sure to look us up on your favorite social media
networks such as; Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.
Can the LED be changed at a later date?
No . Due to the construction of the flashlight it
is a very complicated process to change the LED. Changing
or tampering with the LED voids the NovaTac warranty and is
not recommended.
Will
the LED burn out like a regular flashlight bulb?
High output LEDs have a life-span of 50,000 - 100,000
hours. They are extremely rugged and It is unlikely that the
LED in any of the NovaTac flashlights will burn out during
the lifetime warranty.
Are
there any accessories available for these flashlights?
NovaTac offers the Dual Remote Tail Switch and The
QRM weapons mount. Accessories like holsters and other mounts
may be available from our dealers.
Will
the NovaTac EDC flashlights "tail-stand?"
The 120P, Storm, Wichita, and Special Ops models
will generally tail-stand due to its flat switch. The 120E,
120T, 120M and Classic models will NOT tail-stand. The term
tail-stand refers to the ability to turn the flashlight on
and place it on a flat surface so that the light is emitted
straight up. This bounces the light off the ceiling for general
lighting similar to a candle.
Will
NovaTac make brighter, higher output versions?
NovaTac is dedicated to the design and manufacture
of flexible and forward thinking lighting solutions. NovaTac
will continue to design and build better, brighter flashlights
as lighting technology evolves.
Which
batteries do you recommend for the NovaTac EDC flashlights?
Most CR-123a size batteries will work in the EDC
series of flashlights. The lights will function well on disposable
(primary) batteries or rechargeable batteries. Please contact
your dealer for details and specific recommendations.
Are
the parts of the NovaTac flashlights interchangeable with
the Arc 4 or HDS EDC series of flashlights?
No.
Will
components from my Original EDC Series flashlight fit my new
Commercial EDC Series flashlight?
Yes. The Commercial Series and the Original EDC Series
share the same rugged design and parts are interchangeable.
Please note the LED module of the Special Ops (2xCR123) model
will not function when mated together with a 1xCR123a model
battery tube. A single CR123 LED module will function normally
when mated with a 2xAA battery tube.
Do
I need to perform maintenance on my NovaTac Flashlight?
NovaTac recommends basic cleaning and care of all
NovaTac models of flashlights. This process includes, but
is not limited to; electrical contact cleaning and O-ring
lubrication. This procedure may prevent or correct issues
